Galatian Salutation


Introduction: Paul’s concern is that the Galation believers should not lose hold on the only true gospel.

Theme: A Man is not justified by the works of the law but only through faith, (faith alone) in Jesus Christ” - Galatians and Romans

*Resemblances - Rom. 8:14-17 - Gal. 4:5-7

*Differences - Date: disputed - after Paul’s first missionary journey - (49-50 A.D.)

after Paul’s third missionary journey - (54 or 55)


The Nature of the Opposition to the Apostle:

1. Paul mentions those who oppose him in every chapter

(1:6,7; 2:4,5; 3:1; 4:17; 5:7-12; 6:12,13) - Note* v.7 cf. 5:10

2. They were people who had made a profession of faith - 2:4

3. Their message was different than Paul’s - 1:6

4. So severe if the problem that Paul invokes a curse on them - v.8

5. These false teachers were hoping to sway the people unto their thinking- 4:17

6. These false teachers had a bewitching influence - 3:1

7. The false teachers at the outset infiltrated a few but would soon permeate

the whole mass of them - 5:9

8. These false teachers who advocate circumcision as a means of salvation do not in fact

keep the Law themselves - 6:12,13
