Revelation 20:1-15

The Millennium

Introduction:

Throughout the history of the church there have been essentially three particular views regarding the millennium: Premillennialism, Amillennialism and Postmillennialism of which I will give a brief definition. Our purpose now is to stay within the text, using the best hermeneutical tools we have already employed namely both the literal and figurative without forcing or stretching the Biblical text.

  1. Satan Bound – v.1-3

  1. Thousand is used six times (v.2-7)

  1. It refers to the Birth of Christ to the His Second Coming

  2. Satan arrested but not totally out of commission.

  1. Only the elect have their names etched in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev. 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12,15; 21:27; 22:19)

  1. God is Just

  1. John returns to the prophecy of Daniel 7:10; 12:1-2

  2. Christians too must give an account – II Cor. 5:10; Phil. 2:12-13

Conclusion:

  1. Is your name written in the Lamb’s book of life? If you need assurance read and believe the promises of Christ – Romans 8,

  2. Consider our responsibility to go and teach the gospel to the unbelieving sinner. Once they truly believe let us encourage them to be disciples within the church where Christ is the head.
